According to Yolanda Broyles Gonzalez in her book titled" El Teatro Campesino, Theater in the Chicano Movement", the year 1965 witnessed the renaissance of the chicana/o theater in the United States. "Dozens od chicano/a theater groups in the United States made their appearance across the Southwest and the Midwest during the 1960's and the 1970's performing, for the most part, within the chicano/a communities. According to the same author, this movement was generated by the anger and hope of the progressive movent of the time such as the civil rights movement, the antiwar movement, the United Farm Workers movement, the Chicano movement, and the Women's movement. "A widesprread theatrical mobilization sought to affirm an alternative social vision that relied on distinctly chicano/a aesthetic.
