  1. Papier-Mache
  2. Paper Plane Making

These activities address the area of Visual Arts in that it involves students in drawing and painting.

  •       These activities promote the students’ psychosocial and cognitive development in that it engages them in creative thinking and environmental awareness.  This activity encourages cognitive operational thinking, according to Piaget, because it involves small pieces of material to be assembled together to come up with a final conclusion. Being able to learn a new task encourages creativeness which is a component of cognitive development.  This activity also promotes the student’s psychosocial development in that it teaches them social awareness in reference to the importance of recycling plants.  Within the multicultural context, the student will be able to learn and appreciate foreign cultures.  For Mexican-American and Asian children this activity will represent an opportunity to experiment cultural identity.
  •            Within the plasticity context, the students human traits such as creativiness and empathy will be molded and maintain (if student keep being introduced to this type of activity) throughout his or her upbringing.

Metal Embossing

A two hour hands-on workshop where participants will be able to learn the step by step process of how to repusage metal sheets. For this project, we will be using aluminum.

Working with metals is fun and you could create beautiful and sizable pieces of art work.  The thickness of the metal sheets used in repousagge varies according to your needs.  The thicker the sheets, the less malleable it will become.  It could probably be difficult to work with metal sheets thicker than 0.4 mm. (20 gauges).

The equipment and metals used for embossing could be obtained at specialized art and crafts shops in the U.S. of Mexico.  The metals are sold by sheets or weight.  Metal work is not messy, you could easily work it in limited spaces, in your apartment , house or class-room.

Our talented artisans will guide our students step by step on each of the techniques used to create beatiful metal embossing art works.  Using simple tools, the creative mind could be able to find many ways to make different things using sheets of metal.  Copper and aluminum are the most common metals to work, in embossing.  These metals are not that expensive as gold and silver but they possess their own beauty.

Theory: this activity is consistent with the social cultural theory especially social interaction pioneered by Lev Vygotsky (1934-1986) Apprenticeship in thinking: the process by which novices develop cognitive competencies;  they work with more skilled members of the society, often parents or teachers, who act as tutors or mentors.

This activity also consist with the cognitive theory specifically the Concrete Operational Period in which the students, by applying logical abilities, learn to understand concepts of conservation, number, classification, and many other scientific ideas
